Blogging From A to Z Challenge: Ivinson Mansion

Hello again! For today's installment of the Blogging From A to Z Challenge I'm writing about the Ivinson Mansion in Laramie, Wyoming.

When I was eight years old, one of my brothers started attending the University of Wyoming. On one of our trips to visit him, we went to the house. I fell in love and have been in love ever since. This is my dreamhouse. Without a doubt, if I ever win the Mega Millions or become extrememly rich, I'm building myself a replica of this mansion.

The mansion was built from 1892 to 1893. And it's just magnificent. It was a girls school for a while and has since become a museum. The mansion is three floors and has a beautiful circular staircase. I know that it's fashionable right now to have the large open floor plans, but I love the smaller rooms that are typical of a Victorian home. Probably this house is why. And the house has a dumb-waiter. That's just awesome.

You can learn more about the mansion's history and the original owners by visiting LaramieMuseum.org

  1. I would have loved to have gone to school in that beautiful mansion - - even without the boys!

  4. Wow, I see why this is your dream house! Homes of this era have always been my favorite. What you said about winning a lottery made me giggle. If I had a dollar for every time that exact thought has gone through my head when I've seen houses this stunning...the house would be mine.

    1. Tracy - If I had a dollar for every time I said "If I won the lottery I'd..." I wouldn't need the lottery. At all. I'd be able to just build a house like that.

  5. I've maybe seen one too many horror movies, but that style of house always kinda creeps me out a bit. I immediately think it must be haunted!

    1. Jenn - I don't know if anyone claims that house is haunted. I didn't feel anything when we were there. But I like to imagine that ghosts in Victorian houses are all friendly ghosts though.

  6. I have such dreams of what type of house I would live in if I ever won the lotto and money was no object. A Victorian is near the top, but I would totally want a replica of the The Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park. NY. So. Freaking. Beautiful.

    1. Heather - I'll have to google the Vanderbilt Mansion because I'm not familiar with it. I'm not sure that anything could top the Ivinson for me though.

  7. My eyes popped when I saw this post, as I live in Laramie but hardly anyone outside of Wyoming has heard of the Ivinson Mansion. It is beautiful, isn't it? I like to park right by it on my way to work at the University :-)
