Today's
Blogging From A to Z Challenge is brought to you by the letter F. For Fashion Icons. If you asked most of the people around me, they would describe me as a jeans and t-shirt girl. But inside, I'm totally not. I lapse into wearing jeans and t-shirts because they're easy when you're overweight. I pay more attention to the trends and celebrity style than most people realize I do. So here's my five favorite fashion icons and why.
Audrey Hepburn. Her clothes are elegant and classic. Nearly everything she wore in all of her movies could be worn now with no or very little tweaking. Even the dress above.
Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. She dresses very feminine without crossing the line into trying to be a little girl.
Doris Day. Her clothing was elegant as Audrey Hepburn but seems to be a little more accessible. She wore loads of shirt dresses (I couldn't find any pictures of her in a shirt dress, I've seen most of her movies, I KNOW they were a staple of her wardrobe) and shift dresses in her movies.
Helena Bonham Carter. Because she just doesn't give a rat's ass what you think about how she dresses. She's knows exactly who she is and oozes self-confidence. She's my new hero because she doesn't feel the need to fit in or shrink away to hide in the shadows. I want to be like that.
Katharine Hepburn. She was known for wearing menswear-inspired clothing. And she did it with sophistication and femininity. And when she wore dresses, WOW. Whatever she wore, she knew was was flattering and always accented her thin waist and ended up looking long and lean.
Audrey and Katherine. I totally agree. Katherine is my fashion idol. I love you site KC. Very well put together and great stuff. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteSydney - Thank you. Katharine Hepburn is so classy. There's no one like her; that's why I'm drawn to her so much.

nutschell - Thanks. I tried to pick my favorite outfits that each of the ladies wore and I think the pictures worked well together.
DeleteThat blue dress (in the collage) is something I'd love to wear. I don't work in an industry where dressing up is appropriate so I tend to not buy nicer clothes. Jeans & shirts all the time.
ReplyDeleteJenn- The royal engagement dress? Heck yeah, it's awesome. I might be going to a wedding this summer and if I do, I'm making myself a sleeveless version of that. If I don't go, I still might make it.
DeleteI love this post! I love the classic styles of the 40s and 50s!
ReplyDeleteHeather - The styles then were great! And depending on how you accessorize the looks now, you don't have to look "retro" if you don't want to.
